Changdong Driving School Review Summary

I registered in late May 2026 and completed my classroom lessons, closed-course skills training, road driving lessons, and tests by mid-June. Tuition for both Class 1 and Class 2 standard licenses was KRW 784,000. The closed-course skills test cost KRW 44,000, and the road driving test cost KRW 50,000. Assuming that no retest or supplementary lesson was required, the total academy cost was KRW 878,000.

The staff generally explained lesson scheduling and test applications carefully, while most instructors taught parking reference points and road-test courses in a beginner-friendly manner. The vehicles and skills-test area were generally clean, and the air conditioning in the vehicles and waiting room worked well during hot weather. Shuttle buses also made repeated visits from Changdong and Ssangmun stations convenient.

However, parking and lane-change instructions differed between instructors, and a few staff members and instructors used an unfriendly tone. Lesson and test appointments could also be delayed during busy periods.

Changdong Driving School Registration and Tuition

Registration Consultation

At my first visit, the reception staff explained the available license categories and the order of the classroom, skills, and road driving lessons. After checking my identification, I completed the application and selected available lesson dates.

When the schedule allowed, I could attend the three-hour classroom course on the registration day. I also received a written-test workbook, so I did not need to purchase a separate book.

The staff explained how to book road driving lessons and tests after passing the closed-course skills test. The registration wait was not long, although it took longer to speak with a staff member during busy hours.

Tuition and Test Fees

Tuition for both Class 1 and Class 2 standard licenses was KRW 784,000. The closed-course skills test fee was KRW 44,000, and the road driving test fee was KRW 50,000.

The total was therefore KRW 878,000 when all tests were passed without supplementary lessons. A failed skills test required another KRW 44,000 payment, while a failed road test required another KRW 50,000.

Supplementary lessons were charged separately, so I recommend asking about the hourly lesson rate before registering.

On-Site Payment

I completed my registration and payment at the academy’s reception counter. The tuition and test fees were explained separately, and the required amount was confirmed again when each test was booked.

For separate road refresher training, a KRW 6,000 vehicle insurance payment had to be prepared in cash. I recommend bringing both a driver’s license and KRW 6,000 in cash when attending refresher training.

Changdong Driving School Road Refresher Training Prices

Avante, Morning, and Venue

Ten hours of road refresher training in an Avante, Morning, or Venue cost KRW 460,000. These vehicles were suitable for drivers who had not driven for a long time or wanted to practice city driving and parking in a smaller car.

Their manageable size also made it easier to learn vehicle width and forward visibility.

Seltos, Trax, and Sonata

Ten hours of training in a Seltos, Trax, or Sonata cost KRW 480,000. Selecting a vehicle similar in size to the one that will actually be driven can make the lessons more useful.

A preferred model may not be available immediately during busy periods, so I recommend confirming both the vehicle and lesson dates before payment.

Grandeur and Sorento

Ten hours of training in a Grandeur or Sorento cost KRW 500,000. Drivers planning to use a larger vehicle can benefit from practicing its width, turning range, and parking position.

The separate KRW 6,000 insurance payment brought the total amount to KRW 506,000.

Changdong Driving School Classroom Lessons

Written-Test Preparation

The classroom course lasted three hours and covered traffic laws, safe driving, and common written-test topics. The workbook provided during registration could also be used for test preparation.

The pace was manageable for a first-time learner, and the explanations of confusing traffic signs and intersection rules were helpful. I recommend using a mobile practice-test application together with the workbook.

Classroom Environment

There were enough seats for the students attending the class, and the air conditioning kept the room comfortable during hot weather. Some instructors made the lesson interesting and easy to follow.

In one class, however, the instructor’s voice and gestures were excessive and made concentration more difficult. The teaching style differed by instructor, but the course still covered the basic material required for the written test.

Changdong Driving School Vehicles and Facilities

Driver’s Seat and Vehicle Controls

Before driving, I adjusted the seat height, seat distance, side mirrors, and rear-view mirror. I found a position where I could see the lane ahead and operate the brake and accelerator without stretching.

The steering wheel was not excessively heavy and was suitable for learning turns and lane control. The brake responded quickly when pressed too firmly, so I repeatedly practiced applying pressure gradually for smoother stops.

One vehicle had to be changed because of its condition, but the time lost during the change was added to the lesson.

Vehicle Cleanliness and Climate Control

The vehicle interiors were generally clean, including the driver and passenger seats. Air conditioning was available during hot-weather lessons, which made both skills and road training more comfortable.

The amount of wear differed between vehicles, but most were in usable training condition. I recommend reporting any unusual noise or brake response to the instructor immediately.

Waiting and Rest Areas

The waiting room was large enough for several students preparing for lessons or tests. Seats, coffee, cocoa, tea, vending-machine drinks, and small snacks were available.

There was also a small play area for students visiting with children. The area became noisy when many students gathered before a test, but announcements could still be heard.

The restroom interior was clean, although there was an occasional odor near the entrance during hot weather.

Changdong Driving School Closed-Course Skills Training

Basic Operation and Parking Reference Points

The skills lessons covered pre-driving checks, turn signals, hill starts, left and right turns, and perpendicular parking.

At first, it was difficult to know when to turn and straighten the steering wheel, but the instructor divided each action into clear reference points. Perpendicular parking was practiced repeatedly using visible lines and mirror positions.

When I made a mistake, I could repeat the same section and receive an immediate explanation of the scoring deduction.

Differences Between Instructors

The most confusing issue was that parking reference points differed between instructors. The method explained in one lesson was not always the same as the method taught in the next.

I recommend writing down the easiest method and asking the next instructor to continue with the same approach. Students who have difficulty concentrating because of unclear instructions or an instructor’s attitude can ask the reception desk for a different instructor.

Skills Test and Waiting Time

The skills test was held at the academy, so no separate trip to an outside test center was required. Students waited according to the testing order, and the wait could become longer on busy days.

The test fee was KRW 44,000, and another payment was required after a failed attempt. I recommend using the same reference points practiced during the lesson instead of trying a new method immediately before the test.

Changdong Driving School Road Driving Lessons

Four Test Courses

Road driving lessons covered four test courses. I used the academy’s videos and maps to learn lane-change points, turns, and traffic-signal sequences.

Some instructors marked lane-change locations and intersection signal orders directly on the map, which was useful when reviewing before the test. The QR-based videos had clear spoken directions and were easier to follow than a map alone.

Difficult Road Conditions

Traffic around the academy could be heavy depending on the time of day. Parked vehicles occupied parts of the outer lanes, and some sections required a quick lane change after a right turn.

During busy testing hours, I had to watch moving traffic and parked vehicles at the same time. Memorizing the course was not enough. Mirror checks, signaling, speed control, and safe lane changes had to be practiced together.

Instructor Teaching Methods

The better instructors first observed my driving and then spent the remaining time repeating weak areas such as turns and lane changes.

Some instructors asked what I had missed instead of giving the answer immediately, which helped me recognize the mistake. A few instructors, however, used informal language or spoke too quietly to understand.

Advice about speed and lane-changing timing also differed between instructors. I recommend requesting an instructor whose teaching method is a good match after the first lesson.

Road Test Booking

The road driving test fee was KRW 50,000. When the academy was not busy, a test could be scheduled soon after the lessons.

During peak periods, the earliest available date could be about three weeks away. Because a long gap makes it easier to forget the courses, I recommend checking the earliest test date before registration.

A failed test required another KRW 50,000 payment, and supplementary lessons added further costs.

Changdong Driving School Staff and Shuttle Service

Reception Staff

The reception staff generally explained registration, identification requirements, lesson scheduling, and test applications carefully.

After a failed test, some staff members were helpful in finding an additional lesson and an available instructor. Service quality was not identical at every counter.

A few staff members avoided eye contact, handled documents roughly, or gave very brief answers over the phone.

Instructors and Test Staff

Most instructors remained calm when beginners made mistakes and repeated their explanations. Satisfaction was highest with instructors who explained parking reference points and road-test lane changes clearly.

There were also instructors who yawned, responded irritably, or touched the steering wheel and brake without enough explanation. Some test staff helped reduce nervousness, while others used an unfriendly tone.

Shuttle Buses

Shuttle buses were available from Changdong Station, Ssangmun Station, and surrounding areas. Before my first ride, I contacted the driver to confirm the pickup point and time.

Return transportation was also available after the lesson, which was helpful because the academy required several visits. Most drivers were friendly and shared useful test-day advice.

There was also an instance when a driver responded poorly after a dispatch error. I recommend confirming the pickup location and vehicle number by text.

Changdong Driving School Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

The classroom course could be taken on the registration day, and the written-test workbook and road-test videos were useful.

Classroom training, skills lessons, road driving lessons, and tests could all be completed at the same academy. The vehicles and waiting room were generally clean, and the cooling system worked well.

Shuttle service made repeated visits easier for public-transport users. With a suitable instructor, weak areas could be identified and practiced efficiently.

Disadvantages

Parking and road driving instructions differed between instructors, which became confusing when several instructors were assigned. A few staff members and instructors used informal or discourteous language.

Popular lesson times and test dates were difficult to reserve during busy periods. Traffic and parked vehicles around the academy also increased the difficulty of some road-test sections.

Failed tests required new test payments, and supplementary lessons could significantly increase the final cost.

Overall Satisfaction and Willingness to Return

The minimum academy cost was KRW 878,000 when all tests were passed on the first attempt. Although the price was not low, completing the classroom course, skills training, road lessons, and tests at one location was convenient.

The academy is a reasonable choice for a first-time learner who confirms the available test date and requests a suitable instructor.

For future road refresher training, I would consider returning after selecting a vehicle similar to the one I plan to drive and requesting an instructor whose lessons suited me.

Changdong Driving School Location and Transportation

Travel From Changdong and Ssangmun Stations

The academy is located inside the Dobong-ro 136-gil area, reached from the main Dobong-ro road. The academy shuttle provides convenient transportation from Changdong Station or Ssangmun Station.

Students should confirm the pickup time and location with the driver before visiting. Local buses can also be used to reach a stop near Dobong-ro, followed by a walk into the side street.

Drivers planning to bring their own vehicle should ask the reception desk about parking availability and busy training-vehicle hours before visiting.
