Can You Complete Pre-Test Safety Education and the Written Test in One Day in Korea?

First-time applicants in Korea often ask whether pre-test traffic safety education, the physical examination, the application form, and the written knowledge test must be completed on separate days. The short answer is that it may be possible to complete them in one weekday visit if you book a daytime education session by the previous day, confirm the test center’s physical-examination arrangements, and reach written-test registration in time. An education reservation does not reserve a written-test seat, and same-day completion is not guaranteed when a night class, unavailable medical facility, long queue, or missing document interrupts the sequence.

When one-day completion is possible

A workable situation

The route may work when you have booked a daytime class, the selected center either has an examination room or accepts a qualifying health-examination record, and enough time remains to finish the counter process before written-test registration closes. “Possible” only means the steps can fit into one day. It is not a guarantee of admission because waiting time and operating capacity vary.

Common situations that break the route

Same-day completion usually fails when the applicant selects education after 18:00, waits until the class date to attempt online booking, arrives at a center without an in-house physical-examination room and has no hospital result, lacks identification or photographs, or finishes education too late to complete written-test registration.

Education booking and written-test registration are different

Pre-test traffic safety education is booked on the KOROAD schedule page by selecting the examination office, date, and available class. The online request must be completed by the previous day. Applicants must bring identification and arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled class.

The weekday written test follows a different process. KOROAD’s visit-time notice directs applicants at all 27 offices to register on site without a weekday visit-time reservation. Do not assume the education confirmation also reserves the test. What to do on the day before your visit

1. Open the official education schedule and select your examination office and a daytime session.
2. Open the class capacity entry and complete the application while seats remain.
3. Use the official physical-examination guide to verify whether the selected office has an examination room.
4. If you hope to use a national health-examination result, confirm the date, included eyesight and hearing results, and whether it applies to your license class.
5. Allow time for the written-test registration window, the lunch pause, document preparation, and an unpredictable queue.
6. Pack acceptable identification, three recent 3.5 × 4.5 cm color photographs, and a payment method.

Deciding where to complete the physical examination

KOROAD states that applicants may use an examination room inside a licensing office or an outside hospital. As checked on September 15, 2026, the Mungyeong, Gangneung, Taebaek, Gwangyang, Chungju, and Chuncheon offices do not have an in-house physical-examination room. If one of these is your chosen office, arrange an eligible hospital examination before the visit. Facilities can change, so recheck immediately before travel.

In some circumstances, a National Health Insurance health-examination result or a military physical-examination result issued within two years can be used through consent to administrative data access when the required eyesight and hearing standards are met. Do not assume that every result works for every applicant or license class; confirm your case with the office.

As of the review date, the listed fee for an in-office examination is KRW 8,000 for Class 1 Large and special licenses and KRW 7,000 for other licenses. Outside hospitals set their own fees.

Written-test documents and operating hours

A first-time written-test applicant needs an application form showing a completed physical examination or an eligible health-result check, acceptable identification, and three upper-body color photographs taken within the previous six months against a plain background at 3.5 × 4.5 cm. If the physical examination is also part of the visit, pack all three photographs from the start.

KOROAD lists weekday registration from 09:00 to 17:00 and pauses testing from 12:00 to 13:00. The standard test contains 40 questions and lasts 40 minutes. The passing score is 70 for the ordinary Class 1 categories and 60 for ordinary Class 2 and motorized bicycle categories. The listed fee is KRW 10,000 for most categories and KRW 8,000 for a motorized bicycle test. Korean, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese are available.

A practical same-day sequence

1. Arrive 30 minutes before education: complete identification, fingerprint registration, and class-card procedures.
2. Complete the one-hour education: the course must precede the written test.
3. Complete the physical check or health-result verification: use the option confirmed for your office and license class.
4. Prepare the application and register on site: attach photographs, present identification, and pay the test fee.
5. Wait and take the PC written test: account for the lunch pause and queue.
6. Keep the marked application form: the score and result appear immediately on screen, and the stamped application is needed for later stages.

KOROAD does not promise identical class times or waiting periods at every office. Select an early daytime class from the actual booking screen and aim to reach the written-test counter well before closing rather than relying on a generic timetable.

Check whether you actually need the education

The standard pre-test class primarily applies to first-time license applicants and holders of a military license converting to a civilian license. People who already hold a Korean license and are adding another class, foreign-license holders seeking an exchange, or applicants requesting only an International Driving Permit may be excluded from this general course.

Separate exemptions can apply, including applicants who have completed the required classroom education at a certified driving academy. Why one-day plans commonly fail

• Treating the class and test as one reservation: weekday written-test registration is a separate walk-in counter procedure.
• Booking on the class date: online education booking closes the day before.
• Selecting a night class: no same-day written-test registration or testing is available after an education session beginning after 18:00.
• Assuming every office has a medical room: a missing facility may require a separate hospital visit.
• Bringing too few photographs: the first written-test application requires three.
• Arriving near 17:00: reaching the building before closing does not guarantee enough time for the medical check, application, queue, and counter process.
• Ignoring the lunch pause: testing stops from 12:00 to 13:00, which may extend the visit.

Applicants who need supported test formats

KOROAD gives different registration cutoffs for hearing-impaired and non-literate applicants: registration must be completed by 10:30 for the morning period or 16:30 for the afternoon period. Audio-assisted and sign-language PC tests are listed as 80 minutes, so applicants combining education, the physical check, and testing need a larger time buffer.

Contact the selected office before arrival to confirm availability and registration for the required format instead of waiting until the counter visit.
