Can You Take Korea’s Driver’s License Written Test on Saturday? Booking and Walk-In Guide

Korea’s driver’s-license knowledge test is commonly called the written test, but it is not offered at every examination office on every Saturday. The Korea Road Traffic Authority provides separate guidance for special Saturday knowledge-test sessions. Availability and booking rules can differ by location and date, so an old review or search result is not enough. Check the official schedule for the exact office and day you plan to visit.

Weekday tests currently use walk-in registration

The official knowledge-test page lists weekday registration at driver’s-license examination offices from 09:00 to 17:00, with testing suspended from 12:00 to 13:00. The visit-time notice says applicants at all 27 offices should register on site on weekdays without making a visit-time reservation.

No booking does not mean that arriving just before closing guarantees a test. A first-time applicant may still need to prepare the application, complete or document the medical check, and have identity and photographs reviewed. The general test-schedule page tells applicants to reach the civil-service desk 30 minutes before the test to complete the application or attach the test label. Allow more time if this is your first visit.

Saturday offices and current booking rules

As checked on September 14, 2026, the Authority’s visit-time notice lists 15 examination offices for special Saturday knowledge tests.

• Booking required: Dobong and Daegu
• No booking required under the notice: Gangnam, Gangseo, Seobu, Busan Bukbu, Busan Nambu, Incheon, Daejeon, Yongin, Ansan, Wonju, Jeonnam, Masan, and Jeju

Do not read this list as a weekly operating calendar. Saturday dates, capacity, and participating offices can change. Before traveling, open the official driver’s-license test schedule, choose the license class, test subject, office, and date, and confirm that a session is actually shown. At Dobong or Daegu, also confirm that the required booking has been completed.

How to check a Saturday date

1. Open the test-schedule page in the Safe Driving Integrated Civil Service website.
2. Select your license class and the knowledge-test subject.
3. Choose each practical examination office and inspect the Saturday you need.
4. If the office requires a Saturday booking, complete it before the deadline.
5. Even at a location described as no-booking, confirm operating hours, registration cutoff, and required materials.
6. Save the booking record or schedule screen and recheck it shortly before departure.

A blog post mentioning one past Saturday cannot prove that the same office will operate on your date. Use the official selected-date screen and the examination office’s notice as the final reference.

Can education and the knowledge test be completed on the same day?

A first-time applicant must complete pre-test traffic-safety education before taking the knowledge test. The Authority’s education page states that online education bookings must be made no later than the day before the desired class; same-day online booking is not available. Bring identification and arrive 30 minutes before the education begins.

If you take an early daytime class and the same office has enough time for the medical check and knowledge-test registration, completing the next steps on the same day may be possible. It is not a bundled or guaranteed appointment. Check the education finish time, on-site medical room, registration cutoff, waiting volume, and your documents separately.

The Authority specifically says that applicants attending traffic-safety education after business hours, from 18:00, cannot register for or take the knowledge test that same day. Plan the test for another date after a night class.

A practical one-day route

1. By the previous day: book pre-test education if required and check whether the selected office has an on-site medical room.
2. Before leaving: bring identification, three compliant photographs, and any health-check record you plan to use. Photographs should be 3.5 by 4.5 cm, in color, and taken within six months.
3. At the office: complete the booked education and prepare the application.
4. Medical step: complete the examination through the office facility, an accepted health-check record, or the applicable hospital process.
5. Knowledge-test registration: register well before the lunch suspension and the 17:00 weekday cutoff.
6. After the test: check the score and result on the computer and keep the returned application bearing the result stamp.

Materials, timing, and scoring

The official knowledge-test page lists an application with the medical requirement completed or an eligible health-check result, identification, and three color photographs taken within six months at 3.5 by 4.5 cm. The computer-based multiple-choice test contains 40 questions drawn from the published question bank and normally lasts 40 minutes.

The listed fee is KRW 10,000 for Class 1 Ordinary, Class 2 Ordinary, and several other classes, and KRW 8,000 for a Class 2 moped test. The pass mark is 70 for Class 1 Ordinary, Large, and Special licenses, and 60 for Class 2 Ordinary, Small Motorcycle, and Moped licenses. Available languages are Korean, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese.

Audio-supported testing for applicants with literacy needs and sign-language testing for deaf applicants last 80 minutes and use earlier registration cutoffs. Contact the civil-service desk in advance if you need one of these formats.

Common planning mistakes

• Assuming every Saturday works: only an office and date with a scheduled special session can administer the test.
• Treating no booking as a guaranteed seat: schedule, cutoff, and on-site capacity still matter.
• Trying to book education online on the same day: the stated deadline is the day before.
• Planning the test after night education: registration and testing are unavailable after a class beginning at 18:00.
• Confusing license-service visit reservations with test registration: renewal and reissue visit bookings are a different service.
• Forgetting photos or the medical step: a first-time application cannot proceed correctly without the required preparation.
• Arriving near lunch or closing: testing pauses from 12:00 to 13:00 and document review takes time.

If no session appears

If the selected office and date show no knowledge-test session, do not assume a technical error. The office may not be operating that Saturday, the schedule may not yet be released, or registration may be full. Compare nearby offices and then contact the examination office or the Authority’s customer center if necessary.
